Levante were relegated from La Liga after a six-season stay in the Spanish top flight as two late goals condemned them to a 3-1 defeat at Malaga on Monday.
Croatian striker Duje Cop gave Malaga the lead in the 30th minute with a near-post finish barely a minute after Levante striker Mauricio Cuero had a goal harshly ruled out for offside.
Jose Luis Morales levelled in the 42nd minute but Malaga finished the game stronger and deserved to take the lead again in the 89th through Cop which put Levante on the brink of relegation.
Chory Castro delivered the final nail in the coffin with a powerful finish from the edge of the area in stoppage-time.
The Valencia club are bottom of La Liga on 29 points, six points behind Getafe, Sporting Gijon and Rayo Vallecano with two games remaining. They have collected just six points away from home this season, winning only one game on their travels. Levante were promoted to La Liga in 2010, their centenary year, and two years later qualified for European football for the first time.
They reached the round of 16 of the Europa League before being knocked out by Russian side Rubin Kazan.
Werder earn Bundesliga lifeline with Stuttgart demolition
Werder Bremen crushed relegation rivals VfB Stuttgart 6-2 in the Bundesliga on Monday to move out of the relegation zone for the first time in weeks with two matches remaining.
Werder, who took a 3-1 first-half lead with goals by Fin Bartels and Levin Oeztunali plus a Federico Barba own goal, got two more through Claudio Pizarro and Bartels after Italian Barba had briefly cut the deficit early in the second half.
Werder substitute Anthony Ujah completed the rout in the 87th minute for his 11th goal of the season to lift Werder to 34 points and into 15th place.
Stuttgart, champions in 2007, twice hit the woodwork in the first half but collapsed after the break and stand in 17th place, level on 33 points with Eintracht Frankfurt, who are in the relegation playoff spot in 16th.
Hanover 96, on 22 points, have already been relegated.
