God I'm sorry, says 'lightning' Bolt

Even god was sidelined, as a church in Hatfield, Manchester, in Jamaica, allowed its members to leave the Sunday service earlier than normal to watch Usain Bolt run in the men's 100 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, on Sunday.

The gold medal clinched, their favourite could only apologise to the Almighty.

"God I'm sorry #lovemypeople," the Olympic and World champion wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

The Greater Commission Apostolic Church's service on Sunday usually runs till 12:30 pm but Pastor Basil Barnaby, aware of the member's anxiety to watch Bolt race in the final, decided the service would not pass its stipulated cut-off time.

"It was with the objective of allowing people to get home to see the race. People like that (athletics), and once Jamaicans are really interested in something, nothing can prevent them or stop their mind from going there, so I just allowed them to go and see it," Pastor Barnaby was quoted as saying by the Jamaica Star.

Barnaby, who himself is a big sports fan, said he too was keen to watch the showdown between Bolt and American Justin Gatlin, who finished second.
