6 gold for Indian lifters at C'Weath championships

Competing in the backdrop of a series of dope flunks, Indian weightlifters began their Commonwealth Senior and Junior Championship campaign by winning six gold and four silver medals in Penang, Malaysia, on Wednesday.

Out of the six golds, three were won by the senior lifters while the remaining were pocketed by the juniors. In 56 kg category, VS Rao clinched gold while V Vinoth Kumar took home the silver medal.

In senior men's 62kg, Rustam Sarang won gold while Omkar Otari pocketed the silver.

In senior women's 48kg, Soniya Chanu won gold. In the junior women's 48kg, Bangaru Usha won a gold medal, while compatriot Deeksha Gaikwad had to be satisfied with silver.

In junior men's 56kg, Sukhen Dey bagged the gold while Swapnil Ghagare made it one-two for India by pocketing silver.

K Ramesh Kumar finished first in the junior men's 62kg to complete the tally of six gold and four silver for Indians.
