The PadMan challenge, which has spread like wildfire on the social media, is related to the upcoming film 'PadMan' starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, and Radhika Apte.

The movie is inspired from the story of entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social entrepreneur who invented a machine for manufacturing low-cost sanitary pads for the women of his village.

He also initiated the #PadManChallenge on the social media to create awareness about women's being on period and usage of sanitary pads and tagged other people to take up the challenge next.

The first one from sports fraternity to join the challenge was Rio Olympics silver-medallist PV Sindhu.

The star shuttler Sindhu took to Instagram and uploaded a picture with her holding a sanitary pad. The image captioned, "Thank you for tagging me Deepika Padukone! Yes, that's a pad in my hand. Periods are normal. Just another day...#PadManChallenge."

Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri, head coach of the Indian cricket team, also accepted the 'PadMan Challenge' by posting a picture of him holding a sanitary pad.

Shastri posted the picture on his official Twitter account and captioned it as, "Yes, it's a Pad in my hand. Happy to support rockstar @akshaykumar for breaking the taboo and initiating an open conversation."

Shastri dared Indian skipper Virat Kohli and tennis ace Leander Paes to take up the challenge.
