Summary of sports events and persons who made news on Tuesday
Indian shuttler B. Sai Praneeth jumped one spot to 10th while Kidambi Srikanth slipped three places to be at 13th in the latest BWF rankings issued on Tuesday.
Sai Praneeth, who had won bronze at the World Championships in August, moved to top 10 while Srikanth, who was at 10th in the previous week, dropped out of the top bracket.
Sameer Verma also moved up one place to be at 16th in the men's singles rankings headed by Japanese Kento Momota.
In the women's singles rankings, P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal remained unchanged at sixth and ninth respectively.
In the men's doubles, the pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty rose two places to be at seventh. The Indian duo have been in fine form in recent months, reaching the final of the French Open in October and the semi-final of the China Open recently.
Asian Youth Boxing: Two Indians enter quarters
Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Nov 12 (PTI) Two Indian boxers -- Ankit Narwal (60kg) and Aman (+91kg) -- advanced to the quarterfinals of the Asian Youth Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
While Aman defeated Uzbekistan's Makhmudov Mimukhsin 5-0, Ankit pravailed 3-2 over Mongolia's Tulga Oyunbaatar.
However, Mohit (75kg) lost 2-3 to Kazakhstan's Bektas to bow out in the opening round itself.
India were assured of two medals in the event after Komalpreet Kaur (+81kg) and Sushma (81kg) got direct entry into the semifinals owing to the small size of their respective draws in the women's competition.
The event features 180 boxers -- 113 men and 67 women -- representing 16 countries in the continent.
Manish Suresh Kumar moves to pre-quarters with upset win
Indian youngster Manish Sureshkumar knocked out 16th seed Japanese Rio Noguchi to move to the pre-quarterfinals while Siddarth Rawat got the better of local favourite Arjun Kadhe at the KPIT MSLTA Challenger in Pune.
On a day when 11 Indians were in action, the wiry 20-year-old from Chennai, ranked as low as 748, beat the 408th ranked Noguchi 6-3, 7-6(4) in a one hour 36 minutes.
Manish took the first set rather easily but Noguchi raced to a 4-2 lead in the second set but the young Indian clawed his way back to close the match by clinching the tie-breaker.
Manish played strongly in the tie break and hit two great forehand winners to seal the win, ensuring himself seven ATP points.
Qualifier and former national champion Dalwinder Singh proved strong for compatriot Kunal Anand, winning 6-3, 6-4 while Kaza Vinayak Sharma who made it to the main draw as an Alternate rode his luck to conquer qualifier Tejas Chaukulkar 7-6(1), 6-7(5), 6-4 in the longest match of the day lasting 2 hours and 16 minutes.
Rawat played solid tennis to oust 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in one hour 40 minutes. Both players matched each other but a shoulder issue hurt Kadhe's chances.
Greece's Markos Kalovelonis outhit Vijay Sundar Prashanth 6-2 6-4 while Tunisian Aziz Dougaz stopped a late comeback from up and coming Adil Kalyanpur 6-3, 7-6(3).
