Schweinsteiger's performance does not cut it for Van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has slammed new signing Bastian Schweinsteiger's 'bad' performance despite claiming a comfortable 3-1 pre-season win over Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes.

The Dutchman was unhappy with United's careless second half display, labelling German midfielder Schweinstieger's performance as 'bad'.

Schweinsteiger moved to Old Trafford after signing a three-year deal with United for a fee of 15million pounds last week.

Van Gaal said that United played very badly in the second half. However, he insisted that players could play bad, especially when they only have six days training in their legs and they have to play 45 minutes, the Daily Express reported.

Van Gaal also said that they gave the ball away unnecessarily after half-time, insisting that their positions in midfield were not as good as in the first half.

Juan Mata had earlier put United ahead in the 32nd minute before Depay, who was signed for 31million pounds, doubled the lead four minutes later.

Although Fatai Alashe pulled one back for the hosts, Andreas Pereira scored the third goal after half-time to guide the Louis van Gaal's side to victory.

United have so far won both games of their United States tour and will take on Champions League winner Barcelona in Santa Clara on Saturday.
