Rutuja in quarter-finals of girls' doubles at Australian Open

Fifteen-year-old Rutuja Bhosale and her Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi recovered from a slow start to advance to the quarter-finals of the girls' doubles at the Australian Open, in Melbourne, on Tuesday.

Rutuja and Sutjiadi scored a 5-7, 6-2, (10-5) win over the Australian pair of Naiktha Bains and Danielle Wagland in the second round.

Rutuja and Sutjiadi went down fighting 5-7 in the first set, but staged a strong comeback in the second. They then took the deciding match tie-break 10-5 to seal the contest.

The Asian duo will take on Irina Maria Bara of Romania and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia in their last eight match.

Bhosale, who hails from Pune, trains under Sandeep Kirtane and is a 11th standard student of Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) College.

In their opening round, Rutuja and Sutjiadi had beaten India's Ratnika Batra and Australian Georgiana Ruhrig 1-6, 6-4, (10-5).
