Andy Roddick has agreed to re-join the American Davis Cup team next year after missing a season, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) said on Thursday.

Roddick was a permanent fixture in the US Davis Cup team from 2001 to 2009 but took this year off to reduce the wear and tear on his body after suffering a knee injury.

"I'm very excited to be back," he said in a statement.

"Trying to win the Davis Cup again is a top priority for me," he added.

Currently America's highest-ranked male player, Roddick helped the US win the Davis Cup in 2007 and has won 31 Davis Cup singles matches in his career. The only American to have won more is John McEnroe, with 41.

The US face a tricky first-round tie away to Chile in March and the new non-playing captain Jim Courier said Roddick's availability was a real boost.

"Having Andy commit to the 2011 campaign is huge for our team," Courier said.

"Andy not only brings his outstanding Davis Cup record but also his experience and team leadership which will be invaluable to our efforts," he added.
