Olympic bronze medal-winning wrestler Sakshi Malik is all set to be conferred with the country's highest sporting honour, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

The award will be given as per policy by the government.

It has been decided that during Olympic years anyone, who wins a medal, will be automatically conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

Sakshi has not won the Arjuna Award, but the policy decision by the government will ensure that she is directly considered for the Khel Ratna.

Gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who narrowly missed the bronze medal in Rio and shooter Jitu Rai, who was one of the two shooters to have made it to the final, have also been recommended for the prestigious Khel Ratna award.
