The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) of India has replaced Narsingh Yadav with Praveen Rana in the 74kg category of wrestling for Rio Olympics.
The move happens two days after Indian wrestler Narsingh Yadav failed a dope test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
However, Narsingh's hopes, though remote, aren't entirely over. If the NADA finds him innocent he can still be reinstated.
The WFI, in a bid to save India's quota place, have sent Rana's name as the replacement.
Narsingh was earlier picked ahead of the double Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar to represent India at Rio.
He was handed a provisional suspension after he failed the dope test, testing positive for the steroid methandienone, almost ruling out of next month's quadrennial extravaganza.
Sports minister Vijay Goel had also ruled out Narsingh's chances of boarding the flight to Rio.
