In a desperate bid to get his life back on track, convicted Paralympics runner Oscar Pistorius has reportedly expressed his interest in assisting disadvantaged children if he is released on parole as early as August.
Pistorius, who is serving a five-year jail sentence for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013, was acquitted of murder charges and was found guilty of culpable homicide, and is expected to be released in August to spend the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Robert Kruger, one of double amputee-athlete's lawyers, said that Pistorius was managing in jail and was isolated but hanging in and praying to keep up his strength.
Kruger said that Pistorius was keen to become involved in assisting children in whatever opportunity comes up, insisting that the sprinter's legal team were trying to help with this and sort a job, the Daily Star reported.
Meanwhile, Pistorius' solicitor Barry Roux said that Pistorius walks free in August and then has ten months on parole, adding that the parole conditions would be at their discretion, as he would have an anger management course and would be barred from drinking, and taking drugs.
Roux added that they would set the parameters and Pistorius would keep to them, insisting that there is no way a man as famous as him could change his name. He said that Pistorius would have to lift his head and take it on the chin.
