Ukraine stunned higher-ranked Canada 5-2, while Italy held top-ranked South Africa to a 1-1 draw in the London Olympics women's hockey qualifier at Dhyan Chand National stadium in Delhi on Tuesday.
In the day's first match, Maryna Khilko (12th minute, 28th) struck twice in the first half to take Ukraine to the breather with a 2-1 lead after Canada's Kat Gillis had scored in the second minute.
In the second half, Maryna (43rd minute) added another goal, while skipper Katie Baker (38th) and Stephanie Jameson (40th) extended the lead before Canada's Maddie Secco (48th) pulled one back.
The 26-ranked Ukraine, who held India 1-1 but lost their second match 0-2 to South Africa, now lie in fourth place.
In the second match, world No 19 Italy had their nose ahead as early as the fourth minute through a penalty conversion by Alessia Dorian Padalino to lead 1-0 at the break.
The 12th-ranked South Africans' search for the equalizer ended when Laure Penny scored in the 40th minute as the match ended in a draw.
South Africa and Italy lead the pool with seven and five points respectively.
