Nitin Gadkari, president of Bharatiya Janata Party, has charged the Manmohan Singh government of looking the other way while officials and others associated with organizing Commonwealth Games were making money.
"Congress has removed Suresh Kalmadi from party office but it is an eye wash. Whether it is 2G scandal or CWG scandal, it is a big scandal", he said while speaking to newsmen at party head office in New Delhi.
Gadkari had demanded for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) should probe the CWG scam a few weeks back. Sharad Yadav, while speaking in the Lok Sabha, too demanded a JPC probe in CWG and Adarsh Society.
Gadkari alleged that the PMO was giving approval for the demands made by the Organizing Committee to the group of ministers who went through the details of the demands for money never pointed out any wrong doing in various contracts that were offered mostly to the foreign bidders.
"The tiles used in Jawaharlal Nehru stadium were air lifted from Australia. The bids of Indian contractors/builders were totally ignored," Gadkari said.
He claimed that the maximum money required for setting up a new stadia could be anything between one to five crore.
"But in case of the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium the renovation itself cost more then 862 crores. This needs a joint parliamentary committee probe," he said.
