Nat tennis: Rawat rallies to overcome Munshaw

The top seeds in the men's and women's singles advanced to the semi-finals of the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championships, in Delhi, on Thursday.

Top seed Jeevan Nedunchezhiya breezed into the semi-finals of the men's singles with a clinical performance against fifth seed Ashwin Vijayaraghawan. The Tamil Nadu lad had little trouble as he won 6-1, 6-2.

He will meet third seed Siddharth Rawat, who rallied from a set down to defeat Vaidik Munshaw 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Jeevan NedunchezhiyaIn other quarter-final matches, Ramkumar Ramanathan was at ease while beating Delhi boy Saurabh Singh 6-1, 6-2, and Maharashtra's Arjun Khade got the better of 11th seed Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash 7-5, 6-4.

Arjun will take on Ramkumar for a place in the final.

The women's singles was also heading for a similar script, with all the top seeds making it to the next round, before Sri Vaishnavi Peddireddy knocked out fourth seed Shweta Rana.

Vaishnavi fought her way back into the match after being a set down to oust Shweta 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Top two seeds, Rishika Sunkara and Prerna Bhambri, however, won their respective matches and stayed on course for Saturday's title clash.

While Rishika justified her top billing with a 6-1, 6-2 thrashing of eighth seed Vaniya Dangwal, Prerna eased past Delhi girl Simran Kaur Handa 6-0, 6-4.
