National Archery: Bombalya creates three records

London Olympics medal prospect L Bombalya Devi of Railway Sport Promotion Board (RSPB) created three new national records while archer Tarundeep Rai set a new record in the ongoing 32nd Sahara Senior National Archery Championship at JRD Tata Sports complex in Jamshedpur on Thursday.

Tarundeep, who shot 357 in the 30 mt distance men's recurve event to clinch gold, eclipsed the previous meet record of Olympian Mangal Singh Champia, who had scored 356 in the 2009 championship held at Pune.

Champia, who faced tough contest against Thupuvoyi Swuro (Nagaland) in the 30 mt distance, clinched the second place with 335 followed by Sanjay Boro's (Assam) 335 score.

The ace SSCB archer, who still has a national meet record in the 70 mt distance to his credit after he shot 344 points at 28th national championship in 2008, also won the gold in the 70 mt distance with a total score of 343.

His compatriot Rajiv Basumatary with a score of 341 finished second while RSPB's Kapil had to content on third spot with a score of 337.

In the 50 mt distance event, Atanu Das of Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) bagged the gold with a score of 337 while Tarundeep finished second with a total score 335 followed by Thupuoyi Swuro 335.

In the men's section,Tarundeep, who shot 357 in the 30mt distance men's recurve event to clinch gold, eclipsed the previous meet record of Olympian Mangal Singh Champia, who had scored 356 in the 2009 championship held at Pune.
