September 02, 2008 18:27 IST

The 34th National Games will be held in Jharkhand from November 30 to December 13, secretary of Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) S Hashmi announced on Tuesday.

The National Games was scheduled to take place from December 1 to December 13, but the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) advanced it by a day, added Hashmi, who is also the secretary of the organising committee of the National Games.

The overall progress of work and development of sports facilities for the Games is satisfactory and will be ready in time, barring the basketball court in Ranchi.

"We are expected to take over the facilities by the month end," he said.

The infrastructure to hold basketball events is likely to be completed by November end, while facilities for football, hockey, gymnastics, kabaddi, kho-kho are almost ready. The stadium for hosting track and field events is also near completion and the synthetic track would be in place in a fortnight, Hashmi added.

Hashmi, who was in Jamshedpur to review the preparations, said JOA has sanctioned about Rs 1.20 crore for the restructuring and renovation of sports infrastructure where events like archery, women's football, boxing and weightlifting will be held.

A total of Rs 1000 crore will be spent to organise the Games.
