India made history on Thursday by snatching two gold medals, its best performance in an Asian Kayaking and Canoeing event.
But the honours were grabbed by China, who won 13 medals, including nine gold at the Asian championships in Bhopal.
Bubbling with energy on the second day of the four-day sporting extravaganza at the Boat Club, India's D V S Negi grabbed a gold in the K-1 1000 metres junior men's category while Navin Sahu and Satya Kumar won the second gold in KT-2 1000 metres.
It turned out to be a memorable occasion as India reaped a rich harvest of eight medals, including two gold, two silver and four bronze, to grab the fourth spot.
Excelling in most events, reigning champions China marched forward, topping the medal tally with 13 medals, including nine gold, one silver and three bronze, at the end of second day of the championship.
China was followed by Japan with 12 medals, including five gold, three silver and four bronze, while last edition's runners-up Iran bagged 14 medals (three gold, eight silver and three bronze).
India's Amutombi bagged the silver medal in C-1 1000 metres junior men's category while Manoj Kumar and Karan Singh snatched silver in C-2 1000 metres junior men's event.
India also won bronze in K-2 1000 mtrs junior men's (Shanty Swaroop and A Yendapha), C-2 1000 metres senior men (Daleep Beniwal and Ajit Kumar G), KT-2 500 metres senior women (Smita Aziz and Kochumol Mathuo) and K-4 junior categories.
