Karnataka triumph at National Aquatic C'ships

Karnataka clinched both the men's and women's team titles in the 63rd Senior National Aquatic Championships at the LNCPE pool near Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, a day when 26 existing records were erased.

Karnataka, who retained the overall championship title bagging 18 golds, 17 silvers and eight bronze medals, concluded their journey in the six-day event with 318 points in their kitty.

Maharashtra finished second with 175 points, claiming seven gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals, followed by Police (124) with seven golds, seven silver and four bronze medals.

Star swimmer Rehan, who bettered five records on the day, was adjudged the best sportsman of the meet.

In the women's section, 25 year-old Richa Mishra (33 points) of Delhi Police, created three new marks in the event.

In the diving event held at Water Works swimming pool, Railways claimed both men and women team championships with 34 and 21 points respectively.

Railways romped home with the medals in the water polo championship in the men's section, while Maharashtra claimed the women's title defeating Kerala in the final.

Mandar A Divase of Police set a new mark in 1,500mt freestyle clocking 16:06:64 improving his own mark of 16:17:07 set in 2008.

Erasing her own mark of 05:04:84 set two years back, Mishra clocked 05:02:96 to clinch gold in 400 metre individual medley.
