'If Kalmadi doesn't resign he should be kicked out'

January 27, 2012 14:28 IST

Congress leader and IOA vice-president Jagdish Tytler on Friday demanded that his party colleague Suresh Kalmadi be removed as president of the organisation if he does not resign on his own.

Tytler also accused Kalmadi, who was sacked as Commonwealth Games Organising Commitee chief, of being responsible for the "humiliation" that the country's sports faced and said anybody who supports him is "party to his loot."

"The person for whom the entire sporting fraternity of India has faced such humiliation, the person who has made mockery of Indian sports should take the moral responsibility for the troubles and humiliation caused and should resign from the president's post immediately," he said.

"If Kalmadi is not resigning, he should be removed with immediate effect. Merely giving soft statements will not work, if he doesn't resign he should be kicked out," he said.

Tytler also said India can't bear anymore humiliation and that no one should be allowed to make fun of the Indian system and sports.

He also said he agrees with the stand taken by Sports Minister Ajay Maken on the issue. Maken had said he was uncomfortable with the idea of Kalmadi returning as the president of the Indian Olympic Association after his release from jail.

"I may not agree to Ajay in many points but this time I fully support him," he said.

Kalmadi was granted bail earlier this month by the Delhi High Court after spending nearly nine months in prison in connection with a corruption case related to the CWG scam.
