After being deprived of a gold medal by Border Security Force's Amit Kumar Pilaniya in the 10m air pistol event three days ago, Samaresh Jung was bang on target today as he won the 25m centre fire pistol title in the Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championships.

CISF's Jung, nicknamed "Gold Finger" for his stupendous show in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, edged out Army rival Pemba Tamang to clinch the gold at the Balewadi Ranges.

Jung logged 290 in precision to have a three-point cushion going into the rapid fire round in which he was outscored by Tamang, but the former's overall tally of 584 was one better than his rival's.

The bronze went to MP marksman Mahaveer Singh who pipped Omkar Singh, winner of three gold and one silver in last year's Delhi Commonwealth Games, to the third spot.

The team gold was grabbed by the army trio of Tamang, Vijay Kumar and Pushpendra Singh (1733) with the silver and bronze being bagged by BSF (1701) and Maharashtra (1686).
