Former champion Janko Tipsarevic has confirmed his participation for the USD 450,000 Aircel Chennai Open to be held here from January 5 to 11.

For the seventh year, Tipsarevic will kick-start his season at the Chennai Open. In 2013, Tipsarevic had a dream start to the season when he captured the fourth ATP World Tour title of his career, defeating Bautista Agut (Spain) in three sets.

His noteworthy achievements last year include progressing to round four of the Australian Open and the US Open, and defeating Vasek Pospisil in an emphatic tiebreak at the deciding singles of the Davis Cup semifinal. He finished in the top 50 for the sixth year in a row.

In the 2012 edition of the Chennai Open, Tipsarevic lost to 21-year-old Canadian Milos Raonic in an epic three hour and 14-minute singles final.

Immediately following this match, Tipsarevic won the 2012 doubles crown with Indian ace Leander Paes in front of a full-house Centre Court crowd.

A few months after, the Serb reached a career high ranking of a fantastic World No. 8, and for a second consecutive year, finished in the top 10.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Hiten Joshi, CEO, Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) said, "It gives us joy to know that Janko Tipsarevic is recovering from injury and back in the game.

"He has confirmed his participation and is starting his season at the Aircel Chennai Open 2015, which is fantastic news. Tennis fans here love Tipsarevic and we are sure his presence will excite tennis followers across the country."
