Top seeds bite the dust

The top two seeds bit the dust on a day when the Indians sailed into the second round of the ITF Futures Tennis tournament in Chennai on Tuesday.

Top seed Todor Enev of Bulgaria was wayward in a 0-6, 2-6 loss to qualifier Dmitrv Mazur of Uzbekistan, while Orest Tereshchuk, the second seed, from Ukraine conceded the match to Rainer Eitzinger of Austria due to 'a stomach problem'.

Eitzinger was leading 5-4 in the second set after losing the first 4-6.

Sunil Kumar Sipaeva scored a straight set victory over Jaco T Mathew, winning 6-4, 6-1 while Somdev Varman got past V M Ranjeet 6-0, 7-6 (7-1).

Vishal Uppal got the better of Mustafa Ghouse 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and Vishal Punna managed to beat Ajay Ramaswamy in two tie-break sets at 7-6(7/3), 7-6(7/5).
