Top seed Rushmi Chakravarthi scored a grand double when she won the $10,000 Bhavna Swarup ITF women's tennis tournament singles title and topped it by bagging the doubles crown, pairing Sai Jayalakshmi, in Muzaffarnagar (UP) on Saturday.
In a commanding display, Rushmi, who lost in the final of the ITF tournament in Mumbai last fortnight, tamed Heli Bargil of Israel in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, to pocket the winner's prize of Rs 77,984.
Indeed, it was a tough ask for the Israeli, who had to overcome the fatigue of a marathon semi-final on Friday.
Rushmi started off in blazing fashion and before a tired Heli knew what had struck her, the Indian had pocketed the first set without conceding a single game.
Heli then gave it her everything, picked up her game in the second set and tried her best to comeback, but Rushmi was equal to the challenge and finished off the match in style, winning the second set at 6-4.
The win gave Rushmi her first title this season and fifth overall in eight final appearances.
She then took her earnings from the tournament close to a 100,000 after winning the doubles title. She pocketed her share of Rs 31,280 after she and Jayalakshmi beat Shruti Dhawan and Yael Glitzenshtein of Israel 6-1, 6-4.
In the semi-finals on Friday, Rushmi had beaten Russian Julia Vorobieva 6-4, 6-4 whle Heli overcame a fighting Archana Venkataramanan 7-5, 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/4).
