Top seed Rushmi Chakravarthy and second seed Sai Jayalakshmi advanced to the quarter-finals in the $10,000 Bhavana Swarup ITF tournament, posting convincing wins in Muzaffarnagar, UP, on Wednesday.

While Rushmi disposed off qualifier Ludmila Rozsivalova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-2 in a pre-quarter-final match, Sai trounced Shurti Dhawan, the defending champion in the $5,000 tournament, by an identical scoreline.

The dream run of wild card Sasha Abraham of India, at the Muzaffarnagar District Tennis Association grass courts, came to an end when she lost to qualifier Katie Miles of Britain after a tough three-setter 3-6, 6-3, 0-6.

On Tuesday, Sasha had upset seventh seed Ankita Bhambri.

Also advancing to the last eight were Archana Venkataraman, Heti Bargil and Yael Glitzenshtein, both from Israel.

Archana won when fourth seed German Franziska Etzel retired when trailing 2-6, 0-1. Hati beat Liza Pereira 6-4, 7-6 (7/5) and Yael dismissed the challenge of Natatie Neri of Britain 6-4, 6-2.
