Ready to give up post for future of Indian athletes: Chautala

Abhay Chautala, who was elected president of the Indian Olympic Association, which was subsequently banned by the International Olympic Committee earlier this week, told rediff.com on Friday evening he will "take a decision whether to move the court or not in due course of time".

"I am ready to give up any post to ensure a bright future for Indian athletes," said the controversial politician from Haryana, who is also president of the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF), which, along with the Archery Association of India, was derecognized by the Sports Ministry on Friday.

Sanctions were imposed on both the associations by Sports minister Jitender Singh as he felt the election conducted were "flawed and faulty and in violation of the procedure laid down in the Sports Code".

Meanwhile, AAI president Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the sports ministry has no right to derecognize the association.

"We have not violated any rule or law of the land and the decision is illegal," he said, adding "the Sports Code of the Government of India has no legal sanctity. It is not an Act, it is not part of the constitution and there has not even been a Gazette notification about this so-called code."
