India's strength at the Rio Olympics

India will be represented by a record 121 athletes, including 54 women, at the Olympics.

'The contingent this time is one third more than last time and this itself proves that Indian athletes are improving. It is not just about winning medals but qualifying to participate in the Olympics itself is a huge thing,' Indian Olympic Association President N Ramachandran said.

Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra will be India's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony on August 5.

The 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medalist will make his fifth appearance at the Games. The 33 year old is India's only individual gold medalist at the Olympics.

Athletics contributes the second biggest number of members in India's contingent after hockey. which will have 36 players (18 each for men's and women's team.
