Indian Airlines win Ranjit Singh tourney

March 06, 2006 00:10 IST

Sameer Dad scored the only goal of the match as Indian Airlines beat Bharat Petroleum 1-0 to win the Maharaja Ranjit Singh hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium in Delhi on Sunday.

The experienced Dad scored in the 18th minute of the match, which otherwise was a lacklustre affair.

Indian Airlines, who played without some of their star players, who are on India duty for the Commonwealth Games, won their second domestic title in three months.

In December they won the Nehru hockey tournament at the same venue.

The champions won a purse of Rs 100,000 while the runners-up took home Rs 50,000.

Gurbaj Singh of the winning team was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
