India's Saurav Ghosal went down fighting to English Adrian Grant after earning a surprise place in the quarter-finals of the Santiago Open Squash tournament at Santiago De Compostela in Spain.

Ghosal, the PSA Tour's highest ranked player from India, lost to second seeded Grant 6-11, 11-2, 11-5, 12-14, 5-11 after a hard-fought battle which lasted 59 minutes in the $41,000 4-star PSA World Tour event.

Earlier, unseeded Ghosal recorded one of the biggest upsets when he defeated sixth seeded Colombian opponent Miguel Angel Rodriguez in the pre-quarterfinals.

Ghosal outwitted Rodriguez 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 in straight games in 33 minutes.

Meanwhile, ace Indian women Dipika Pallikal kept the tricolour fluttering while it was curtains for Harinder Pal Sandhu in the men's event of the Coronation London Squash Open at Cumberland LT & SC.

Seventh seeded Pallikal defeated qualifier Victoria Bell of England 11-5, 12-10, 11-6 in 40 minutes in the pre-quarters of the women's $8,000 WISPA World Tour event.

Pallikal will now lock horns with fourth seeded Italy's Manuela Manetta in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Qualifier Sandhu, however, was not that lucky and was shown the door by England's Joey Barrington in 37 minutes.

Sandhu lost 6-11, 7-11, 2-11 to third seeded Barrington in straight games in the $20,000 PSA World Tour event.
