Foster A Child Car Drive

As usual, Sportscraft will usher in the new year with the Gulf Foster A Child Car Drive. The popular Gulf Oil Corporation-sponsored event will be run on Sunday February 4.

Like last year, it will start from Our Lady's Home, Parel, and finish at Duke's Retreat, Khandala.

Going by the response received last year, Sportscraft is expecting a flood of entries this time but will accept only 50 because of logistics.

The intricacies of the drive are simple: For starters, it is not about speed but proficiency in finding one's way by use of a tulip chart that will be provided at the start.

In each vehicle a family will drive with an orphaned, lesser-privileged child, from Our Lady's Home and St Anthony's. The team will have to decide on their navigator, who has to decipher the tulip rout chart that will be given to them in advance. Participants will be timed at the various controls along the route.

There will be special prizes for all-ladies teams.

In addition there will be prizes for the best-dressed team and best decorated car.

As always Gulf Oil will be making a handsome donation to the orphanage in kind. Besides, like last year, Sportscraft will donate the amount it receives by way of entry fees to the orphanage.

Some of the regulars at the drive have already shown interest in participating, but Sportscraft is hopeful of new participants willing to give their time and love for only a day to the underprivileged child.

The last date for entries is January 31, on first come-first-serve basis.
