Champions Red Bull to unveil 2011 car in Valencia

January 21, 2011 14:03 IST

Formula One champions Red Bull will have their 2011 car on track ahead of rivals McLaren with a launch scheduled for the first pre-season test at Spain's Valencia circuit on February 1.

The team, which won both titles last year with Germany's Sebastian Vettel and Australian Mark Webber, said on Thursday the Adrian Newey-designed RB7 will be unveiled in the pitlane before testing starts.

McLaren, runners-up in 2010 with former champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, are presenting their MP4-26 in Berlin on Feb. 4 but it will not make its track debut until the second test starts in Jerez on Feb. 10.

Red Bull secured 15 pole positions and nine wins with their 2010 car, which was one of the last to be unveiled and took 23-year-old Vettel to the title as the sport's youngest champion. Their lineup is unchanged this year.

The team join a list of others also showing off their new cars in Valencia, with seven times champion Michael Schumacher scheduled to pull the covers off his Mercedes some 50 minutes after the Red Bull launch.

Ferrari, Toro Rosso, Lotus and Williams will have their new cars running from day one while Sauber and Renault will present their cars at the circuit one day earlier.

Force India will launch their new car in Jerez on Feb 10 while Virgin Racing and HRT have yet to set dates.
