Denmark international Nicklas Bendtner was convicted of assaulting a taxi driver and sentenced to 50 days in jail on Friday by a city court in Copenhagen, but walked free from the courtroom pending an appeal hearing.

The 30-year-old striker, who plays for Norwegian club side Rosenborg, has appealed against the sentence, his lawyer said, and he was released until the hearing in a higher court.

"We think that it's not good for the club and not good for Nicklas, but he remains a player in the club. We are keeping him," Rosenborg CEO Tove Moe Dyrhaug told Reuters.

In surveillance video of the incident in September, Bendtner appears to strike the driver in the face and kick him after a row started over which way the driver was supposed to drive.

Bendtner admitted to hitting the taxi driver in the face but said it was because he felt threatened when the driver threw a bottle or a can towards him and his girlfriend when they left without paying.

Bendtner, who was left out of the Denmark side that reached the knock-out stages of the World Cup in Russia this year, has 81 games for the national team, scoring 30 goals in the process but has not played a game for the national team since a draw against Chile in March.

ISL: Kerala Blasters register 4th consecutive draw

Kerala Blasters recorded their fourth successive draw in their Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match against FC Pune City in Pune on Friday.

They did well to comeback to tie the match 1-1.

A class strike from Marko Stankovic (13th minute) put Pune City up and running only to see Nikola Krcmarevic (62nd) pull Kerala Blasters level in the second half.

The result took winless PuneCity off the bottom of the table temporarily while Kerala Blasters have moved up to the fifth spot with seven points from five games.

PSG fine midfielder Verratti for drink-driving

Paris St Germain midfielder Marco Verratti has been fined by his club after being stopped for drink-driving by police in France.

PSG said in a statement https://www.psg.fr/equipes/equipe-premiere/content/reaction-du-club on Friday that Verratti had been stopped at a roadside check in Paris in the early hours of Wednesday morning and was found to have a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.

French newspaper L'Equipe reported that the 25-year-old Italy international was detained by police who placed him in a "sobering cell" before releasing him. The report added that he would be charged at a later date.

"Under the rules applicable to the contracts of all our players, Marco Verratti will be deprived of a portion of his monthly ethics bonus," PSG said in a statement.
