West Ham United have appointed David Moyes as their manager following the sacking of Slaven Bilic, the Premier League club said on Tuesday.

Croatian Bilic was sacked on Monday following a meeting with club officials as West Ham dropped into the relegation zone after a 4-1 home defeat by Liverpool left them with two wins in 11 league games.

"It's a big job we have in hand now but I'm sure with everybody together we can get the right results between now and the end of the season," Moyes said in a video posted on West Ham's Twitter account.

Joint Chairman David Sullivan said the club would benefit from Moyes' experience in the Premier League.

"We need somebody with experience, knowledge of the Premier League and the players in it, and we believe David is the right man to turn things around and get the best out of the players at the club," Sullivan said in a statement.

"He is highly regarded and respected within the game, and will bring fresh ideas, organisation and enthusiasm."

Moyes coached Sunderland last season but stepped down following the club's relegation to the Championship.

The former Everton manager's stock has fallen considerably in recent years, following an unsuccessful spell at Spanish side Real Sociedad and an ill-fated stint as Alex Ferguson's successor at Manchester United in 2013-14.

Oxlade-Chamberlain to keep pushing for regular starts at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will keep pushing for a regular starting spot at the Premier League club, the 24-year-old has said.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who started his first game for Liverpool in their League Cup defeat by Leicester City in September, made his first league start during Saturday's 4-1 win at West Ham United.

The England international also scored his first league goal for Liverpool at the London Stadium, earning praise from manager Juergen Klopp.

"It takes time to settle in and learn a new formation and style of play," Oxlade-Chamberlain told the club's website.

"I've had to be patient; I'd have liked to have played as much as I can, that's natural. The only thing I can do when I get the chance is try to impress and help the team to win, with goals and creating chances.

"I'm going to keep trying to do that and keep pushing for starting places, just as everyone else will. That's the best thing – competition for places."

Liverpool are fifth in the league, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City, and host 13th-placed Southampton on Nov. 18.

Liverpool saga past, Van Dijk '100 per cent' behind Southampton

Southampton's Virgil van Dijk is fully committed to the club despite pushing for a move away from St Mary's in the close-season transfer window, the defender has said.

The 26-year-old Dutch international, who handed in a transfer request at the start of the season amid interest from Liverpool, said he has moved on from the saga.

"I don't think it's appropriate to comment on anything that happened before," he told the Daily Echo.

"I'm giving 100 per cent for the club, I work hard every day, I help my team-mates and I'm positive and I want to win every game."

With just five points from their last six Premier League matches, van Dijk reckoned the international break has arrived at the right time for 13th placed Southampton.

He said it was an ideal pause to get their act together ahead of a demanding schedule until the end of the year, starting with a league trip to Liverpool on Nov. 18.

"Every game is important and it's going to be even more important now to get some points and we know we can play very well against everyone," van Dijk added.

"For now, we need to recharge with some of the players going back to their countries and work hard there as well and come back fit and be ready for Liverpool."

Injured trio pull out of England squad to face Germany and Brazil

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson and ManchesterCity duo Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph have pulled out of England's squad for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil due to injuries.

They join Tottenham Hotspur trio Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Harry Kane in withdrawing from manager Gareth Southgate's selection.

West Bromwich Albion's Jake Livermore has been called up to fill one of the spaces vacated, along with Everton defender Michael Keane.

Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill has reported for duty after being cleared to play by the Premier League side's medical team.

England host Germany at Wembley on November 10 before the visit of Brazil four days later.
