Rosberg on pole for home German grand prix

Nico Rosberg will start his home German Grand Prix on Sunday from pole position after setting the fastest time in qualifying on Saturday.

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg reacts after qualification of the German GP at Hockenheimring on SaturdayMercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton, who locked up on his final run, will start second after being 0.107 seconds off his rival’s time of one minute 14.363, with Daniel Ricciardo third ahead of Max Verstappen in an all-Red Bull second row.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen was fifth fastest ahead of team mate Sebastian Vettel who struggled to match the Finn on his first appearance in the Italian team’s scarlet colours on home soil.

Rosberg heads into Sunday’s race at the 4.5-km Hockenheim track trailing Hamilton by six points in the standings after conceding the championship lead to the Briton at last weekend's race in Hungary.
