CSI asks IOC to debar Kalmadi and his aides

December 24, 2011 17:07 IST

In a continued effort to thrust the ouster of jailed Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi and his aides, Clean Sport India (CSI) has asked the international governing body to take necessary action against the tainted officials.

In a letter addressed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chairman, the forum floated by former internationals like hockey Olympian Pargat Singh and former athletics stars Ashwini Nachappa and Vandana Rao, insisted that Kalmadi's revival to the chair will not be acceptable.

Double Asian Games gold medalist Nachappa, said it was high time for the IOA to initiate action against the accused and since they have failed in their act to do so we are forced to think of a "hand-in-glove".

"Somebody needs to take up the issue, after all there is an ethics commission to look into such matters. IOA has not taken any action, so we have written to the governing body and I am happy they have acknowledge our concern," Ashwini said.

"At least now when the international committee asks the IOA, they will be forced to answer why they have not taken any step forward in this regard," she added.

CSI National convener, B V P Rao also urged the IOC to take necessary action to stop Kamladi from getting back at the helm in the IOA.

Kalmadi along with the IOA vice-president V K Verma and Joint Secretary Lalit Bhanot are currently lodged in judicial custody in Tihar Jail because of corruption charges during the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi last year.

Meanwhile, the IOC has acknowledged the forums concern and has forwarded the case to its Ethic Commission.
