East Bengal got the better of Mohammedan Sporting by the odd goal in three at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday evening to move up to seventh in the Airtel I-League table.
James Moga opened the scoring for East Bengal in the 18th minute, but Taro Hasegawa put Mohammedan Sporting on level terms in the 34th minute as the teams went into the breather on level terms.
Edeh Chidi settled the entertaining encounter, scoring six minutes from time after controlling a cross from Shylo Malswamtluanga inside the box and bulging the net in a cool finish.
The result kept Mohammedan Sporting second last on the table with 18 points from 17 outings, while East Bengal, with 23 points, are 11 behind league leaders Bengaluru FC (34) with three games in hand.
Pune FC and Salgaocar, with 30 points each, are placed second and third respectively.
