January 07, 2010 08:59 IST

The combination of youth and experience worked wonders at the Chennai Open men's doubles on Wednesday as Indian rookie Yuki Bhambri and Spanish veteran Carlos Moya, playing together for the first time, won their opening match with ease.

The Indo-Spanish combine, handed a wild card for the event, got the better of the better of the Israeli-American combination of Dudi Sela and Robby Ginepri, winning 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.

Ginepri had caused the biggest upset of the tournament on Tuesday, taking out top seed Robin Soderling in the men's singles, but didn't seem as comfortable playing doubles.

Yuki and Moya will take on the second seeds Marcel Granollers and Santiago Ventura in the next round.

The Spanish combination got the better of the German duo of Michael Kohlmann and Rainer Schuettler in their opener a day earlier.

Meanwhile, unexpected rain meant the late match between the Indian pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna and the American combine of James Cerretani and Travis Rettenmaier couldn't be completed.

The match will resume on Thursday with the third seeded Indian team leading 6-3, 5-5.
