Karun Chandhok's GP2 debut ended in an anti-climax as a collision in the sixth lap dashed his hopes of a decent finish and the Indian driver was forced to retire in an eventful race of the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday.

Nicolas Lapierre of DAMS Racing won the second round, but the overall point's tally has Luca Filippi at the top with 16 points to his name after the race at the Sakhir circuit.

After his ninth finish in Saturday's qualifying round, Chandhok had kicked off round two on a positive note and the Durango driver was in fact in eighth position till lap six when misfortune struck.

Andreas Zuber had earlier hit the back of Lucas di Grassi and after two laps under the yellow flag, Ho-Pin Tung was shunted into the wall.

Then came Chandhok's turn and the Indian was sent spinning after his collision with Adrian Zaugg of Arden International, which forced him to retire.

Chandhok said things were going well till the collision but he is taking some positives from the outing.

"We made a decent start with the car feeling really great, but there was this unfortunate collision in front, which brought out the safety car.

"On resumption I tried to pass Adrian Zaugg into the first corner on lap 7, resulting in a collision causing a broken steering. However we have taken a lot of positives from this weekend and am looking forward to the rest of season," Chandhok said.
