Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea saved a match-point before emerging winners, while Sania Mirza and Martin Hingis were also tested en route to the quarter-finals of the ATP/WTA Western and Southern Open, in Cincinnati, on Thursday.
Fifth seeds Bopanna-Mergea rallied to a 1-6, 7-6(5), 13-11 victory over the French pair of Pierre-Hugues-Herbert Nicolas Mahut to reach the last-eight stage of the US $4,457,065 ATP Masters event.
They next face Ivan Dodig-Marcelo Melo, who prevailed over Steve Johnson-Sam Querrey 7-6(4), 7-6(4).
In the women's event, running simultaneously, top seeds Sania-Hingis scored a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over Germany's Julia Goerges and Klaudia Jans-Ignacik from Poland.
They are now up against the American wild card pair of Christina Mchale- CoCo Vandeweghe.
