Arvind Bhat bows out of Polish Open

March 30, 2008 10:22 IST

India's Arvind Bhat bowed out of the Polish International badminton championships with a straight-game defeat to Finland's Ville Lang in Warsaw.

Bhat, the seventh seed in the USD 15,000 International Challenge event, went down 21-17, 21-13 in 31 minutes.

The result would be all the more disappointing for the 43rd-ranked Indian as his opponent was placed 36 places below him.

Bhat had beaten Austrian Juergen Koch 21-18, 21-17 in the first round but could not repeat the performance in his next match.

Though Bhat edged his opponent in terms of smash winners (12 to 11) and was level in net winners (eight each), he could win only 30 rallies to Lang's 42.

Lang went on to defeat Ukraine's Vladislav Druzchenko 21-16 21-16 to enter the semi-finals, where he will face third seeded Canadian Andrew Dabeka.

Bhat will now train his sights on the India Open Grand Prix in Hyderabad from April 1 to 6.
