A second medal eluded India in the swimming competitions of the Asian Games as its men's 4x100m medley relay team finished a disappointing sixth in the finals at the Asian Games in Guangzhou on Thursday.

The quartet of Rehan Poncha, Sandeep Sejwal, M Badrinath (who replaced Virdhawal Khade in the finals) and Aaron D'Souza clocked 3:52.97s.

The Japanese team bagged the gold by clocking 3:34.10 while team from South Korea claimed the silver with a timing of 3:38.30 followed by Kazakhstani which managed 3:40.55.

Earlier, Poncha, Sejwal, Virdhawal Khade and D'Souza finished sixth, clocking 3:49.38s, in the heats to qualify for the final.

Virdhawal Khade won the first and only bronze for India with his third place finish in the 50m butterfly event on Tuesday.

It was disappointment for India in the individual events on the day as Mandar Anandrao Divase (1500m freestyle), M Badrinath (50m backstroke) and Sandeep Sejwal (200m breaststroke) failed to make the final cut.

Even though Divase won the heats in the men's 1500m freestyle event with a timing of 16:11.84s, he failed to clinch a spot amongst the eight fastest swimmers, who made it to the final.

In men's 50m backstroke, Badrinath too failed to enter the final after finishing seventh with a timing of 27.63s.

Sejwal also experienced a similar fate as he finished fourth in one of the men's 200m breaststroke heats, clocking 2:19.78.

Thursday was the final day of the swimming competitions at the Asian Games.
