Narain Karthikeyan guided Team India to a ninth place finish in the Feature Race in the A1 Grand Prix in Mexico City.

The Chennai driver, the only Indian to race in the Formula One circuit, started in 20th position but steadily gained places and finished with two points.

It was a result of some great race day driving by Karthikeyan and some efficient work by the pit crew which saw India gain as many as 11 places in the Feature Race on Sunday.

Team India currently stands at 12th position in the A1 Championship with 30 points.

Team Ireland, the Feature race winner, enjoyed their first ever A1GP win. Oliver Jarvis, who blitzed the Feature, beat Sprint race winner Alex Yoong of Team Malaysia.

In the Sprint race, Team India had a difficult start at 18th position in the 20 minute race format that allows very little chance of overtaking.

Karthikeyan drove steady, staying out of the mid-field traffic and chaos that took several other teams off the track. A1 Team India completed the race just out of the points in 13th place.

"It was a difficult, yet exciting, race for me. We managed to pick up quite a few positions and the team pulled off some very good pit stops. Despite not qualifying well yesterday and having to start the race at the back of the grid, we did work well as a team to bring home two more points to A1 Team India this race," Karthikeyan said after the Feature Race at the 4.42km track at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico City.
