Perhaps the best defender the game has seen, Bobby Moore stood
like a rock in defence. He was a master tactician who initiated
counter attacks by essaying precise passes from the deep.
He captained England to World Cup glory in 1966. Playing at home,
he ably marshaled his defence and conceded a goal only in the
semis, that too of a penalty.
Moore played a leading role in the rise of West Ham in the sixties. A
towering personality, he galvanized his defence and inspired his
team to achieve glory.
