India finish with 1 silver,
2 bronze medals in sailing

Indian sailors registered their best performance abroad, finishing with one silver and two bronze medals at the Asian Games, after the last round of races was abandoned due to 'shifting of wind' on Wednesday.

The medals were awarded on the basis of results at the end of the penultimate round.

Nitin Mongia won the silver in the OK Dinghy class while the pair of Ashim Mongia and R Mahesh took the bronze in the Enterprise class.

The other bronze was claimed by Rajesh Chaudhury in the Laser Radial Open class.

Nitin Mongia, who was robbed off of a possible gold medal after being controversially disqualified from the eighth race, finished second with 14 net points, behind South Korea's H C Jin, who accumulated 11 net points.

The bronze medal in the event went to Thailand's V Puangnak, who had 18 net points.

In the Enterprise class, Ashim Mongia and his crew Mahesh narrowly missed the silver. The Indian pair, who had discarded their third race, had 22 net points as compared to 21 by the Pakistani team of S Arshad and R Muhammad. The gold was won by the Korean duo of J H Jun and K Jung.

Rajesh Chaudhary, who maintained a steady performance throughout his event, finished with 22 net points after having discarded his first and sixth races.

China's S Shen (9 points) and J G Jim of Korea (15) won the gold and silver respectively.

In the 420 men's section, Farokh Tarapore and Vikas Kapila finished fourth, while Sandeep Srikanth stood sixth in the Laser Full Rig class.

In other events, Salil Sabir was ninth in the Optimists boys class, while Shilpa Oberoi finished seventh in the Optimists girls'.

The Jani sisters, Ridhi and Aditi, finished seventh and last in the 420 women's event.
