World No 2 Roger Federer [Images] has confirmed he will take part in the Madrid Masters next week, after a three-week lay-off.
"It is great to know we can count on Federer's participation for another year," competition organiser Manolo Santana was quoted as saying in the Spanish media on Friday.
"I hope he arrives well rested so that we can enjoy his best tennis. The conditions in Madrid and the type of surface are ideal for his style of play."
Federer, who won the Madrid Masters in 2006 and lost in the final to David Nalbandian last year, took some time out after helping Switzerland [Images] beat Belgium in their Davis Cup World Group play-off match last month.
The 13-times Grand Slam champion withdrew from this week's Stockholm Open.
The Madrid Masters runs from October 11-19.
