Ace Indian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal moved to the second round of the men's singles table tennis tournament at the Beijing [Images] Olympics [Images] after defeating Spaniard Alfredo Carneros 4-2 in Beijing on Tuesday morning.
Sharath was stretched to the fullest by Carneros, with whom he has been playing together at Spain's San Sabastian Club for the last two years.
Sharath got off to a poor start losing the opening game tamely, but came back strongly to down the Spaniard 6-11, 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 at the Peking University Gymnasium.
The Melbourne Commonwealth Games [Images] gold medallist will now take on Australian Weixing Chen, who has beaten him before.
Should he get past Chen, then he will meet world No 1 Hao Wang of China.
Earlier in the morning, Anju Bobby George [Images] bowed out of the women's long jump after fouling in her first three jumps during qualification.
