Vishwanathan Anand continued his winning ways as he annexed the 13th Grenkeleasing Rapid World Championship on Sunday. It was Anand's 11th title in the city of Mainz, Germany [Images], which hosts an annual chess event.
Anand beat young Norwegian Magnus Carlsen 3-1 in four-game final.
The victory will also Anand's preparations for the upcoming World Championships in Bonn against Vladimir Kramnik.
Anand headed the league stage, and then won the first two games of the four-game final to move into a commanding position. A draw in the third confirmed his title and the fourth game was a formality and ended in a 11-move draw.
Anand, playing with white pieces, thus extended his own record of wins in Mainz.
In the league Anand scored two wins over Alexander Morozevich and drew twice each against Carlsen and Judit Polgar in the four-player tournament.
World No. 2 Morozevich won the final game of his match against Judit Polgar to take 3rd.
