Saina, Chetan clinch national titles

Rising star Saina Nehwal and third seed Chetan Anand won the women's and men's titles respectively at the 71st Senior National Badminton Championship in Patna on Sunday.

Saina of PSPB, who had to content with second position in women's singles for the past two years, struggled for half-an-hour against team mate Aditi Mutatkar to wrest the title from her displaying her wrist-magic 21-19 and 21-16.

After two years' interval, PSPB's Chetan lifted the trophy trouncing Air India's Anand Pawar 21-18, 21-17.

In a keenly-contested match, Chetan defeated Pawan 21-18, 21-17.

In the men's doubles, holders Rupesh Kumar and Sanavae Thomas of PSPB emerged victors in the finals for the second time in a row trouncing V Diju and J B S Vidyadhar 21-9 and 21-19.

Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurean of PSPB maintained their supremacy in the women's doubles bagging the title five times in a row outclassing B R Meenakshi and Aparna Balan 21-17 and 21-11.
