Indian hopes to see two women players competing in the main draw of the US Open ended with Sunitha Rao's straight set third round defeat in the singles qualifiers in New York.

Sunitha, the highest ranked Indian in WTA charts after Sania Mirza [Images], lost 4-6, 4-6 against second seed Zi Yan of China.

Rohan Bopanna and the US-based Prakash Amritraj have already exited from the men's singles qualifiers.

Pakistani Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, who qualified for the Wimbledon main draw, failed to get a ticket to the US Open main draw as he withdrew from the third round qualifying tie against American Scoville Jenkins.

Qureshi, after pocketing the first set 7-6 (7), lost the second set 2-6 and then retired.
