India scored a field goal and converted a penalty-corner to beat Malaysia 2-0 in a 40-minute hockey practice match in Doha on Tuesday.

Rajpal Singh put India ahead and Raghunath then converted a penalty-corner to make it 2-0 for the former Asian Games champions.

''It was a good match. We wanted to have a feel of the pitch, so we asked for the game,'' chief coach Vasudevan Baskaran said.

''The boys played well on a turf which was a bit heavy. But we got a good practice. am satisfied with the way the boys shaped up on this turf," he added.

Assistant coach Harender Singh also appeared satisfied with players' display.

"It takes time to get adjusted to such newly-laid turf,'' he said.

''The boys are in good nick and form, but we have told them not to take their rivals lightly. We are playing the opening match against Bangaldesh and it is important that we win the match by a good margin. It will be dangerous for us to underestimate them," he added.
