Tiger Woods's [Images] wife Elin has issued libel proceedings against an Irish magazine for publishing fake nude pictures of her during September's Ryder Cup tournament in Ireland, her lawyer said on Friday.
The former model filed a summons against The Dubliner magazine at Dublin's high court, he said.
The September edition of The Dubliner carried bogus nude pictures of Elin Woods alongside a story on some of the US Ryder Cup wives headlined "Ryder Cup filth for Ireland".
The listings magazine, which later apologised for an article it said had been satirical, also falsely linked her to a number of porn sites.
Her US lawyer confirmed she was pursuing a libel action against the publication but declined to comment on what level of damages, if any, were being sought.
"Legal proceedings have been initiated against the Dubliner Magazine by Miss Woods," J. Douglas Baldridge, a partner with Washington D.C. law firm Venable LLP told Reuters. "That is clearly not Miss Woods in the photo identified."
The article prompted a furious response from Tiger Woods and the American Ryder Cup team as the tournament got under way at the K Club in County Kildare. The United States eventually lost by a wide margin to the European team.
The publishers of the magazine later offered to donate the proceeds of the issue to a charity of the couple's choice.
Golf's leading player married Sweden's Elin Nordegren in Barbados in 2004.
